Application for Interdisciplinary Major in 2027-1
 

Under University Constitution and Regulations in Chapter 4, section3, Article 35(Interdisciplinary Major) & Academic Operations Regulation Chapter6, Section2, Article2 & Guideline for Interdisciplinary Major

The Interdisciplinary Major is an undergraduate degree program that combines or integrates two or more degree courses. Upon fulfilling the graduation requirements for both the first major and the Interdisciplinary Major, a student enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Major shall be conferred with a bachelor's degree in each of the respective majors.
 

1. Application Process

A. Applications are reviewed by the interdisciplinary major council and each faculties organizing the Interdisciplinary Major.

B. Applicants’ overall GPA (including F grade) is taken into consideration.
 

2. Eligibility

A. Under the Academic Operations Regulations of Korea University, Article 104 & 112, applicants should have registered for more than three semesters(those whose first major have not been designated are ineligible) are eligible to apply for interdisciplinary major.

* Enrollment retention period for students in the semester of application: Fall semester (September 1 – January 31)

B. Transfer students can apply after completing a minimum of one semester at Korea University.

C. Students on leave of absence are not eligible to apply.

* students who take leave of absence during the application semester will be disqualified for the major even after being announced as successful applicants.

* After acceptance, students may take a leave of absence in their entry semester

D. Students who are already in the interdisciplinary(double) major program are ineligible to apply. Also students who are pursuing a second major are ineligible to apply unless students withdraw from the program before October 12, 2026 (Mon) 17:00.
 

3. Application Period: October 14th(Wed), 2026, 10:00 ~ October 16th(Fri) 2026, 17:00
 

4. How to Apply

A. Online application at KU Portal → Academic Records(학적) → Multiple Major(다전공) → Interdisciplinary Major Application(융합전공신청) (Please make sure to ‘save’ your application and then click submit)

B. Statement of Purpose and Goals: Motivation for Application/Areas of Interest or Academic Subjects/Study Plan/Others(1,000 letters in Korean per each parts)

※ When writing the study plan, check that your work is saved temporarily and that you remain logged into the portal.

※ Please be advised that applicants should complete online application 1~2 hours before the deadline. Applications cannot be submitted after the deadline, and any delays due to technical issues with an individual’s computer will not be considered.
 

5. Notice

A. The mandatory regulation of completing a second major is applied to students entering from 2004 onward. Student subject to this regulation must complete one of the followings;

① intensive major course of first major ②double major ③ interdisciplinary major ④ student-designed major. (Applicant who is transferred with a bachelor’s degree can choose not to complete a second major.

B. Students who withdraw from their second major program in order to apply for an interdisciplinary major are permitted to do so only once; if they are not admitted, they must complete an intensive course in their first major.

C. Intensive major course of 1st major assumes a similar form to the existing single major system.

D. Among successful applicants, those only who retain the eligibility conditions during the application semester (ie. Registration, approval of pre-taken courses, designation of independent major courses, course-registration) will be accepted to pursue Interdisciplinary Major from the following semester.

E. Some Interdisciplinary Major is limited to Home-Campus or specific 1st major students.

F. Courses related to Law are opened by the Law School(Public Service and Social Norms, Humanities and Justice, Public Governance and Leadership, Software Technology & Entrepreneurship Program, Information Security, Medical Humanities)

G. Any inquiries related to the curriculum and graduation requirements should contact the relevant department or college.
